Ever have the need to rearrange data in an InDesign table after placing it on the page. Traditionally, you would have to take the source data, open it in a spreadsheet program like Excel or Numbers, sort it, then reimport it back into InDesign. Well, if you were a Smart Styles user you could simply highlight the table and go to a menu item and select Sort.

Since CS3, Smart Styles has added additional table functionality to InDesign. One of the new features lets users sort rows and columns of data right within InDesign itself. The Sort dialog lets a user choose up to three columns for sorting criteria with the ability to choose ascending or descending patterns. And the sort can be applied to the whole table, to only the column selected, or to a selection of cells.

And the ability to choose the language that the sort is done in allows users to place multi-lingual data into a layout and specify which language to use when sorting the data without having to change the language of the text first.
