It's true, the iPad is a lean-back device

Submitted by Hans Janssen on 22 November 2010

And it offers publishers an opportunity to re-gain their media position.

Having a solid (and rapid growing) installed-base gives us the opportunity to analyze the traffic going to a large amount of iPads. It gives a good indication when tablets are being used for media consumption throughout the day and throughout the week. read more >>

Another breakthrough in tablet publishing

Submitted by Hans Janssen on 26 September 2010

With publications being launched onto the iPad almost every day, it's hard to keep track of what's hot and what's not.

Today a publication went live that has set a new milestone: TRVL Magazine.

It's a travel magazine filled with stunning photography. However, although great content, it's not so much the content that makes TRVL a game changer, what is so special is the fact that it's an iPad only magazine made by three guys who took their moment to become a tablet-publisher! read more >>

Back to the Future with Content Station

Submitted by Steve Schaffran on 23 September 2010

In a variety of ways, the success of the iPad signals a branch point in editorial technology. The other night, working out a WoodWing Enterprise configuration for a potential newspaper customer, I realized that this branching possibly brings to an end the dynamic of writing "to the hole", resetting things back in time to the era of writing to the subject. read more >>

People Magazine sets new standard for iPad magazines

Submitted by Erik Schut on 19 August 2010

Today People magazine was launched on the iPad. Although I'm a bit biased I think it's fair to say that this is by far the best Digital Magazine available today. Like TIME Magazine was an important industry milestone on iPad launch day, People is setting the bar to a new level for the industry. read more >>

WoodWing only affordable for the biggest publishers?

Submitted by Erik Schut on 26 July 2010

It's now 6 months ago since Steve Jobs announced the iPad. It has been a crazy 6 months :-)

We have seen huge interest in our Digital Magazine solution that allows publishers to efficiently publish to the iPad. This interest is ranging from the largest publishers of the world to 1-man design studio's. Because TIME Magazine was our launching title, a lot of people think/assume that our solution is expensive and only affordable for the biggest publishers. Which is not quite the case...

So let me provide some clarity on our pricing.  read more >>

iPad & Editorial Workflow

Submitted by Remco Koster on 23 June 2010

A lot has been written about the iPad since (and before) it made its debut in April in the United States. Sales have been a tremendous success and there is a constant push in areas where Apple has not launched it to start selling it as soon as possible. The iPad has been hailed by many in the publishing industry (most notably Rupert Murdoch) as the saviour of the industry. And I think they are right. Even though I must admit I was a sceptic at first, once I held one in my hands and really started using it I felt its potential impact. Not only to the publishing industry but to the way people use and interact with a computer. Because that is what it is, and a quite powerful one at that. read more >>

Spectacular profits for Digital Magazines

Submitted by Hans Janssen on 18 March 2010

The business potential of a tablet device

Suppose you are publisher of a consumer magazine. You publish monthly, your circulation in print is 100 and you are planning to publish a digital version of your magazine on a tablet device (and you are in the lucky position you have the right system to create this ;-) ).

How many copies of the digital issue 'April 2012' do you think you will sell and what happens to your profitability? read more >>

the iPad: just for books and papers?

Submitted by Dennis van Nooij on 03 February 2010

The announced support for the ePub format and the ability to download books from the iTunes store will probably give book sales a big boost and must have scared Amazon. The format is great for reading articles that are focussed on plain text, hence the focus on books and possibly newspapers. I doubt the iPad is the best option for reading them though. read more >>

Web Fonts Key for Magazines on Apple's iPad

Submitted by Steve Schaffran on 28 January 2010

Web Fonts May Be the Key for Magazines on the iPad (and all the Rest of the Digital Platforms)

Following Apple's iPad launch, I was struck by the juxtaposition of two observations by the commentators. Firstly, several noted the failure of the Flash component in the demo of the New York Times pages; apparently, like its cousins the iPod Touch and the iPhone, the iPad does not play Flash content. Secondly, as detailed in the extreme by a post at Gawker, there was no glitzy demo of magazine content. read more >>
