The perfect complement for your Tablet publications
The world’s #1 provider of Tablet publishing solutions offers a hosted complement that delivers digital issues on demand. This Content Delivery Service (CDS) is the ultimate tool for frequent publishers who don’t want to submit an individual application to their digital marketplace for each issue. It allows end users to conveniently buy and download digital content right within a publisher’s branded Reader application.
Step 1 - Download the Reader app
The scenario is simple: customers download the publisher’s Reader app from a digital marketplace like Apple’s iTunes store or the Android Marketplace. Typically, this app is free of charge. The publisher can choose whether customers can access initial sample content for free, offering a limited reading experience, or, alternately, have customers buy the first content themselves.

Step 2 - Perform an In-App-Purchase
The Reader app contains a “Store” button that connects to WoodWing’s Content Delivery Service. Cover images of available issues, along with a description of the issue’s contents are displayed. After selecting “Buy,” the issue can be purchased and downloaded to the Reader app, where it can be read by the customer anytime, anywhere.

How the CDS can save you money
Because the CDS is a hosted solution, it doesn’t require any major investments upfront. There's no need for hardware on the side of the publisher, taking maintenance and upgrade costs out of the equation. The same accounts for development, as new CDS functionality automatically becomes available to you; it’s all included in the monthly fee.

Other Tablets than the iPad
The content stored on the CDS is 100% cross-platform. An xml descriptor file and video and audio resources are preserved in their native formats and will play on any device that supports that content. So the CDS offers a future-proof roadmap when it comes to supporting yet-to-be released devices.

What is the workflow?
First, publishers create their tablet content as explained here. When the content package is complete, the publisher uploads it to the CDS, guided by an online wizard. The issue's publish date, preview images, and description are entered, as well as possible subscription options. From that moment on, the CDS takes care of the work.

Delivery to the customer
Once the publish date for an issue arrives, it becomes available in the store panel in the publisher’s Reader app. Customers can select the desired issue for download and the CDS will transmit the content to their tablet device. WoodWing’s CDS utilizes Akamai's global edge servers to deliver content to any device worldwide within seconds.

Can I preview content before it is live?
The CDS supports a feature called Development Devices, which allows publishers to designate specific tablets as preview devices. These tablets can see and download content regardless of its “publish” date in the CDS. This allows publishers to experience the download and look at content before giving it a final “go” in the store.
|
What about data traffic?
WoodWing offers an easy data traffic policy. Publishers can upload as many issues to the CDS as they like without additional costs. Depending on the CDS subscription, the amount of data traffic available for customers is included. Publishers can also choose between CDS subscriptions for one app or for an unlimited number of apps.
