Smart Layout for Adobe InDesign and InCopy
May 1st, 2012 - Smart Layout has been around for about 15 years, and it has always been a valuable product, specifically for newspapers. Now, after 15 years of service, we think Smart Layout has had its longest time. We see parts of its functionality are default features of Adobe InDesign (Straddle heads, Smart Grid, Baseline grid, Article Structure, ...). Other parts are still valuable, but we think there are better ways to implement them. That’s why we’ve decided NOT to port Smart Layout to CS6, but instead to re-develop some of its unique features and include them in our Smart Connection *) plugin for InDesign, making use of the latest technology and with better support for automation.
This decision implies that we will stop selling Smart Layout via our website per direct and that WoodWing will cease support for Smart Layout Dec. 31, 2013.
Until that date we will fully support Smart Layout, and existing users can continue to use it after that date for as long as they see fit.
We’re very thankful to those users who have been supporting us over the years by using Smart Layout, and we trust that by offering this alternative, your product requirements will be more than satisfied.
The WoodWing Team.
*) Note that using the Smart Connection plugin implies the use of our Enterprise multi-channel publishing system.
