About the customer

Enjoy the View is a video production company that creates high-quality promotional videos and animations for businesses. After starting out as a freelance videographer in 2011, Tom expanded his business to incorporate fellow freelance professionals.

This collaborative approach allows him to deliver end-to-end video production services, from planning and storyboard development, shooting and editing footage, to delivery of finished films. They specialise in creating innovative live-action and animated content for housing associations, as well as private sector clients.

Rendering and uploading videos used to be so time-consuming. Using WoodWing Swivle saves me hours each month. It means I can spend less time managing file transfers and more time doing what I love - planning, shooting, and editing video.

Challenge

Although only a few minutes long, Enjoy the View’s videos average 500MB to 2GB in size. This means that transferring them to clients can be a time-consuming process. Before WoodWing Swivle, Tom used WeTransfer to send video files to his customers for feedback and approval.

For every video, this involved rendering the file and uploading it. Something which takes a relatively small amount of time by itself. But which, cumulatively, adds up to a significant drain on the time of a busy solo business owner. Not only that, but WeTransfer requires file recipients to download the file within a fixed period, after which the link expires. The short timeframe and lack of flexibility caused many clients to miss their chance to download their files. This meant Tom had to go through the process again - sometimes several times - before his busy clients managed to access their files. Tom also wanted something more professional and branded than directing clients to a generic third-party site like WeTransfer.

Implementation

Digital asset management wasn’t high on Tom’s agenda when he decided to use WoodWing Swivle. Although the software is a sophisticated DAM solution, Tom just needed a convenient and branded way to transfer files to his clients.

Tom found it easy to start using WoodWing Swivle straight away, thanks to its familiar folder structure and intuitive tools. ‘I had no problems getting started with WoodWing Swivle. The folder structure is familiar, tagging is very easy. My clients find it a really easy and straightforward way to receive and download files. If ever I did need help, I like the fact you can start a chat with someone to get the support you need.’

Results and benefits

With WoodWing Swivle, Tom saves time and impresses his clients. He simply uploads files into Swivle’s branded portal and sends clients a share link. Clients can use the link to preview videos in WoodWing Swivle or download a high-resolution version for final use.

Unlike WeTransfer’s week-long window for access, this DAM solution lets Tom set much longer expiration dates. This gives busy clients more time to access files. This means clients are less stressed and Tom has fewer requests for renewed access.

Even if a client does miss the expiration date, it’s no longer a time-consuming process to render and re-upload files. All of the files are stored in WoodWing Swivle already, so he simply resends the link. This is especially helpful when a client asks for files urgently and Tom is out-and-about on another shoot.

It’s hard to quantify the time-savings. But any time I can save on file transfer gives me more time for my day-to-day activities and running the business - like creating storyboards or shooting footage.
