AI integrates into digital quality management in 'Quality 4.0' era

The digital revolution has turned almost every industry upside down. From manufacturing processes to marketing strategies, technology has evolved from a tool to a substantial condition for success. Quality management is undergoing the same ‘revolution’: where organizations previously relied on manual controls and linear processes, today's more complex world demands greater flexibility, speed, and accuracy. The Quality 4.0 era, characterized by the integration of AI and digital tools into quality management, is in full swing. What challenges and opportunities does this bring? And how can organizations responsibly modernize their quality management?

What is Quality 4.0?

The term Quality 4.0 originated as a parallel to Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution characterized by digitization, data analytics, and advanced technologies such as AI and machine learning. The term Quality 4.0 symbolizes the application of these technological innovations in quality management, and combines traditional quality principles with digital tools to make processes more efficient and reliable.

The essence of the Quality 4.0 concept can be captured in three related sub-areas:

  1. Data and connectivity: access to real-time data and seamless integration of systems.
  2. AI and automation: using advanced technology to recognize patterns and optimize processes.
  3. Human expertise: the ability of employees to use technology strategically and maintain human control where necessary.

The reason for Quality 4.0
